In her book, "The ARTIST'S JOURNEY' Nancy Hillis, M.D. writes:
"...our rejected paintings activate the not me self.
They're unfamiliar, they appear as "other" and thus we reject them.
...By giving yourself permission to make "ugly" paintings,
you're acknowledging how vital these exploratory works are to your development as an artist.
